INCREDIBLE INDIA –  UTTAR PRADESH TOUR PACKAGE

VARANASI

Welcome to Varanasi Railway station / Airport . Pick up by our car . Proceed to the Hotel.

According to legend, Varanasi was founded by the god Shiva. There happened a fight between the two supreme gods, Brahma and Shiva, and the succeeding combat resulted in one of the four heads of Brahma being torn off by Shiva. It was a custom of the time that the victor carried the slain adversary’s head in his hand and let it hang down from his hand as an act of ignominy and a sign of his own bravery. A bridle was also put into the mouth. Shiva thus dishonored Brahma’s head, and kept it with him at all times. When he came to the city of Varanasi in this state, the hanging head of Brahma dropped from Shiva’s hand and disappeared in the ground. The land of Varanasi is therefore considered an extremely holy religious site.

The Pandavas, the protagonists of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, are said to have visited the city in search of Shiva to atone for their sin of fratricide and Brahmanahatya that they had committed during the climactic Kurukshetra War. It is regarded as one of seven holy cities which can provide Moksha . Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Kashi, Kanchi, Avanti, and Dwarka are the seven cities known as the givers of liberation. Overnight stay at your Hotel in Varanasi.

Day 02

INCREDIBLE INDIA –  UTTAR PRADESH TOUR PACKAGE

VARANASI

After breakfast proceed by our car to Kashi Vishvanath Temple , one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples. The main deity is known by the name Vishvanatha or Vishveshvara meaning Ruler of The Universe. Varanasi city is also called Kashi, and hence the temple is popularly called Kashi Vishvanath Temple. The temple has been referred to in Hindu scriptures for a very long time as a central part of worship in the Shaiva philosophy.

The Ghats in Varanasi are world-renowned embankments made in steps of stone slabs along the river bank where pilgrims perform ritual ablutions. The ghats are an integral complement to the Hindu concept of divinity represented in physical, metaphysical, and supernatural elements. Varanasi has at least 84 ghats, most of which are used for bathing by pilgrims and spiritually significant Hindu puja ceremony, while a few are used exclusively as Hindu cremation sites.

Proceed to Manikarnika Ghat . It is one of the holiest among the sacred riverfronts , alongside the river Ganga. It is believed that a dead human’s soul finds salvation , when cremated here. Thus, scores of the elderly across the whole country seek to walk upto its edges, and spend their last days absorbing the charisma of the Ghat – which makes even death painless and insignificant to be pondered upon. In India, death is considered as a gateway to another life received as a result of our past actions . The Hindu genealogy registers at Varanasi are kept here.

Visit Jain Ghat believed to Birthplace of  Suparshvanatha and  Parshvanatha. The Jain Ghat or Bachraj Ghat is a Jain Ghat and has three Jain Temples located on the banks of the River. It is believed that the Jain Maharajas used to own these ghats. Bachraj Ghat has three Jain temples near the river’s banks and one them is a very ancient temple of Tirthankara Suparswanath.

Later visit Tulsi Ghat . It is named for Tulsidas who lived there while he wrote the Ramcharitmanas. Earlier, Tulsi Ghat was known as Lolark Ghat.

Visit  Dashashwamedh Ghat  in the evening for Ganga Arti Pooja , the most memorable part of your Varanasi trip.  Be seated at the Ghat around 6:00 PM . The arti starts around 6:30 PM .Above and adjacent to this Ghat, there are also temples dedicated to Sulatankesvara, Brahmesvara, Varahesvara, Abhaya Vinayaka, Ganga , and Bandi Devi, which are all important pilgrimage sites. A group of priests perform “Agni Pooja” daily in the evening at this ghat as a dedication to Shiva, Ganga, Surya , Agni , and the entire universe. We shall advise you where to proceed for Dinner.
